MonitorWare Agent 5.0 Released

Adiscon is proud to announce the 5.0 release of MonitorWare Agent. A prime focus of this release is on reliability. That, of course, not just meaning proper program execution but on delivering messages even under bad circumstances. Circumstances, that other solutions may not even be aware of, much less are capable to handle. Main new features include:

• Automatic resolving of Active Directory Schema GUID's - the event log monitor now is capable of deciphering the AD GUIDs found in your event logs. No longer cryptic numbers but native user names.
• improved support for NetApp Filer and other emulations of the Windows Event Log system (the emulation is not fully compliant, causing grief to many event log readers)
• configurable automatic event log clearing with the ability to auto-backup - quite useful if you would like to make sure the event log doesn't grow beyond a configured size; especially useful if the auditing system is configured to stop windows in the event the log grows too large.
• ability to handle log files automatically created by Windows - Windows can be set to auto-create log files when the event log reaches a specific size. When this happens, the log is backed up and truncated. Our implementation catches these events and ensures that no event is lost. No operator intervention required.
• ability to automatically handle backed-up event logs that are manually transmitted - this mode offers unprecedented flexibility in semi-automatic operations
• "never lose any event" technology - whatever happens, the event log monitor will always be able to deliver all events. This includes very unusual scenarios. This is for the high demanding environments, where loss of a single record is not permitted.
• added a new SMTP Listener service which, among others, can be used to convert emails to syslog messages.
• syslog compression - is now supported in both sender and receiver. Provides an up to 70% message size reduction for typical Windows events.
• persistent TCP connections when sending data to TCP-aware syslog receivers. Offers a large reduction of overhead.
• never failing syslog connections - syslog messages can now be spooled to disk if the receiver is not reachable. As soon as it goes online again, previous messages are read from the spool file. In essence, the syslog connection can be thought of as being ultra-reliable.
• support for an upcoming new standard framing format for TCP syslog messages - showing continued commitment to be at the leading edge of syslog technology.
