NewsMerge 2.2 Released - Totally Free Now

Adiscon today announced the availability of NewsMerge 2.2. The new
release brings some bugfixes and minor feature enhancements - but the most
important thing with this release is a really big license change: Starting with
2.2, NewsMerge is totally free. Previous versions had some limitations, for
example on the number of subscribers, in the free release. All restrictions are
now removed, there is only one edition now, and it is free of any charge.
Does that mean we do now "bundle" any adware or other junk with
NewsMerge? No, definitely not. We have a strict
anti-spyware policy and will
never distribute any of those things. We can manage to give NewsMerge away free
of charge because there is no considerable development effort needed. As such,
we do not have any ongoing costs and thus are able to give it away for free.
Effort is required for support. However, we have seen that only few of
the NewsMerge users actually request support.
So we are changing our policy: while we give away NewsMerge for free, we no
longer provide free support (see below for exceptions for already registered
users). We think this is a fair move and of advantage for allmost all (if not
all) NewsMerge users. Should you be in need of support, please see our
support options page for further
details. Please also note that you can request feature enhancements. We will
gladly provide you with a quote for implementing them.
If you are a registered NewsMerge user, you are entitled for free email
support until the end of 2005. To request it, contact the support alias and
specify your license name and key in your support request. If you are an
UpgradeInsurance customer, free email support is provided up to 6 month after
the expiration of your contract. In this case, specify your UpgradeInsurance ID
inside the mail.
NewsMerge 2.2 is a free download found at
Adiscon's web site. To update a previous version of NewsMerge, download the
2.2 version from the web and install it. NewsMerge will convert your database to
the new format automatically (if needed).
