30 years of WinSyslog – and still moving forward

Graphic marking 30 years of WinSyslog, showing 1996 to 2026 with a vintage PC, modern dashboard, and blue data-stream background.

Today marks a special milestone for us: WinSyslog turns 30.

That is something we are proud of. But for us, a 30th anniversary should be more than a date or a logo. It should be a useful moment for customers and users. That is why we are also releasing WinSyslog 18.2 today.

The most important practical change in this release is a permanent improvement to free mode. It now supports 3 devices and also includes the background service. Previously, free mode was much more limited. With this change, it becomes much more useful for small real-world deployments, labs, and evaluations.

We think that is a better way to celebrate a product anniversary: not just by looking back, but by making the product easier to use today.

A product with long-term continuity

In infrastructure software, longevity matters. Reliability matters. Practical value matters.

WinSyslog has been part of Windows-based logging environments since 1996. Over these three decades, Windows environments, network architectures, deployment models, and operational expectations have changed dramatically. WinSyslog has changed with them.

That continuity is important to us. Not because age alone is an achievement, but because a long product history only matters if the software continues to be maintained, improved, and adapted to current needs.

That remains our standard.

What is new in WinSyslog 18.2

In addition to the free mode expansion, WinSyslog 18.2 includes several usability and maintenance improvements.

We improved the configuration client, made the manual clearer and easier to use, added new language support for Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Estonian, and shipped additional fixes and updates.

These changes are practical by design. Our goal is not only to keep WinSyslog stable, but also to make it easier to adopt and easier to work with in day-to-day use.

The anniversary is also a starting point

We do not see this anniversary only as a chance to look back. We also see it as the start of a stronger phase of product work.

More improvements are already underway toward v19. This includes a new client application, new metrics support and metrics review, and next steps toward improved log viewing.

So while today is a milestone, it is also a starting point.

Thank you

A product does not reach 30 years on its own.

We would like to thank our users, customers, partners, and everyone who has trusted WinSyslog over the years.

WinSyslog 18.2 is available now. And 30 years in, we are still building.
